Organist and conductor, Bob Van Asperen's works concentrate mainly on seventeenth and eighteenth century composers and musicians. Highly regarded as an organist, Bob Van Asperen also plays the harpsichord and clavichord proficiently. His style of playing can only be described as graceful and sensuous. Born in Amsterdam, Bob Van Asperen studied the harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt and the organ with Albert de Klerk. After finishing his classical studies and his practical lessons in 1972 he began performing and recording. He has recorded for EMI, Teldec, Sony Classical and Astree. Among his recordings are the Goldberg Variations, works of J.S. Bach, The Tears of Peter and Paul, a Dutch oratorio and the first Dutch harpsichord sonata by composers Sweelinck and Sybrandus van Noordt.
