Designer was the drum'n'bass alias of Chicago-based DJ, engineer and remixer Casey Rice, a longtime Tortoise associate and soundman whose extensive studio credits also include work with Liz Phair, Shrimp Boat, 5ive Style and Gastr del Sol. A native of Ohio who relocated to the Windy City during the late '80s, Rice (by day a recording engineer at Brad Wood's Idful Studios) debuted the Designer name in 1996 with the 12-inch "Vandal"; a remix of the track appeared on the Soul Static Sound label soon after. Subsequent efforts include "Arashi" and "Gebarck Star," the latter released on Stereolab's Duophonic label. Rice additionally teamed with fellow DJ Black Nuclear Power (a.k.a. Trenchmouth's Damon Locks) as Super E.S.P. ~ Jason AnkenyPortions of Content Provided by Rovi Corporation.
