Based in their home city of New Orleans, Louisiana, this US brass band was founded in 1995 by Bennie ‘Big Peter’ Pete (tuba). The original members were drawn from the Looney Tunes Brass Band and the High Steppers Brass Band, with Pete joined by Wendell ‘Cliff’ Stewart (saxophone), Terrell ‘Burger’ Batiste (trumpet), Alvarez ‘B.I.G. AL’ Huntley (trumpet), Raymond ‘Dr. Rackle’ Williams (trumpet), Jacob Johnson (d. 1996; trumpet), Jerome ‘Baybay’ Jones (trombone), Keith ‘Wolf’ Anderson (trombone), Jereau ‘Cousin’ Fournett (trombone), Demond ‘Bart’ Dorsey (trombone), Joseph ‘Shotgun Joe’ Williams (d. 2004; trombone), Harry ‘Swamp Thang’ Cook (bass drum), and Dinerral ‘Dick’ Shavers (b. 1981, d. 28 December 2006, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; snare drum). The troupe blends marching music with hip-hop, jazz and funk, offering a thrilling update of the traditional brass band sound. They are fêted in New Orleans for their live shows and weekly appearances in second line parades, but became better known outside of the city for the deaths of three members in shooting incidents. In 2006, the Hot 8 Brass Band was featured in Spike Lee’s acclaimed documentary When The Levees Broke: A Requiem In Four Acts.Portions of Content Provided by Rovi Corporation.
