Biography

b. Guy Hatfield, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. A contemporary of Adam Freeland and Tayo, Hatfield is also a rising star of the progressive breakbeat or nu-skool breaks scene. Hatfield left his home town of Lincoln and a job making garden sheds to relocate to London and take up a position with Sony Music. He also established his own promotions company at this time, Waxworks, working with the PuSH and TCR labels and artists such as Hybrid who were part of the emergent progressive breakbeat scene of the time. Hatfield began DJing with the Tyrant sound system and continues a relationship with Lee Burridge and Craig Richards. Hatfield’s sound caught the attention of progressive house godfather, John Digweed, who engaged him as a resident in the backroom of his highly successful ‘Bedrock’ night at London’s Heaven. Hatfield’s mission to educate club audiences on the delights of breakbeat was embodied on his mix album Y3K > Deep Progressive Breaks for Distinctive Breaks. The mix was very well received by the dance music press and was given the Album Of The Month accolade by many of the leading industry magazines. The mix featured breakbeat tracks and mixes by progressive luminaries such as BT, Sasha, Way Out West and Hybrid. Hatfield can be found remixing for other artists, producing his own tracks, DJing and reviewing singles for several magazines.
