21-year-old electro-soul soloist, Jai Paul hit the scene in 2010 with the slick single “BTSU.” Sounding like London’s answer to Dâm-Funk with an achingly sung “Don’t fuck with me” hook over a synth-heavy, bubbling beat, the song caught the attention of several labels, including Polydor and Warp. A bidding war ensued, but ultimately, Jai Paul chose to sign with XL Records at the year’s end, and his debut EP was slated for early 2011. ~ Jason Lymangrover
