The small rock ensemble Jawen formed around the core of brothers Nicolas and Olivier Jawen. Hailing from Evreux in Normandy, the brothers spent time studying and playing abroad (Nicolas in the U.S.; Olivier in the U.K.) before combining forces in Paris in 2006. Following some time spent back in Normandy, the duo released its debut, Two, in 2008. With a focus on singing in English and a deliberately retro appeal based in beach rock and blues, the album gained some success but failed to garner much attention in Europe. After joining Believe Records, the band began work on a new album with an intentional focus on the U.S. market (following in the footsteps of Phoenix) and a strong sense of foreign interest in American rock (not unlike Japan's Fukumimi), culminating in 2010's 1, 2, 2 Is Five. ~ Adam GreenbergPortions of Content Provided by Rovi Corporation.
