Originating in the small town of Puna, HI, liquid is a rap-inflected alternative metal band influenced by the likes of Alice in Chains, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and the Deftones. The group formed in 1997 with a lineup of vocalist Glynn Motoishi, guitarists Chris Albers and Isaiah McDonald, bassist Jason Paulsen, and drummer Frank Bianchini. The group self-released their eponymous first album in spring 2000, and were subsequently chosen to participate in the first Coke-sponsored New Music Awards contest for unsigned bands the following year.
