Biography

Back in the 1980s, Germany's Andre Tegeler was into ska and punk rock. But when the nation's youth shed their Mohawks en masse and began hanging out at dance clubs in the 1990s, so did Tegeler. In fact, he was so taken aback by electronic music that he adopted the moniker of DJ Moguai and started spinning records for a living. After several years of playing at some of Germany's most celebrated venues and raves, he made the natural progression into production. In 1994 he released the popular underground EP Best Before End. The success saw Moguai (also now known as Dial M for Moguai) working on a host of projects with well-known dance artists, but his most fruitful collaboration proved to be with friend and fellow German DJ Phil Fuldner. The duo first made waves on the European dance scene in 1997 when Fuldner released the chart-topping single "The Final" -- a new take on the "Captain Future Hymn." And they again turned heads the following year when Moguai unleashed the hit tune "BEATBOX." It was no coincidence that, at about the same time, Moguai and Fuldner both signed on with Kosmo Records -- one of Germany's most celebrated dance labels, with a bevy of worldwide dance hits to its name. ~ David Peter Wesolowski, Rovi
