Sailcat was a Southern rock band who had a chart and radio hit in 1972 with "Motorcycle Mama." The single's success (it reached number 12 on the Billboard singles chart) led to appearances on American Bandstand and at Carnegie Hall. Sailcat released a self-titled album in 1972 for Elektra that featured many of the heavy-hitters in the Southern rock field such as Chuck Leavell, the Memphis Horns, and Pete Carr.
