Named after a song from the Byrds' Fifth Dimension, Captain Soul was made up of bassist/vocalist Neil Barrow, drummer/vocalist John Garner, vocalist/guitarist Adam Howorth, and guitarist Martin Welsh. Under a previous incarnation and working name (Hooverdam), the were held captive for three years on Sire without any recordings seeing the light of day. Rebirthed as Captain Soul in 2000, Alan McGee signed the band to his Poptones label.
