b. Australia. Quill started out as a folk singer in Sydney, Australia in the 60s, running venues as well as performing, before moving to music journalism with the GoSet magazine. Essentially a singer-songwriter with the emphasis on lyrics, Quill's band Country Radio (1971-73) is regarded as among the best country rock groups Australia has produced, along with the Dingoes.
