John Krautner is a rock musician based in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up in the suburb of Royal Oak, he formed a high-school band with friend and drummer Marc Fellis, who, along with singer/guitarist Bobby Harlow, would later find success with the influential garage band the Go. Beginning in 1998, Krautner, Harlow, and, for the first two years, Jack White made up the primary songwriting core of the Go, who made their debut on Sub Pop Records.
