The Scars formed in Scotland - Bobby King (vocals), Paul Research (guitar), John Mackie (bass) and Calumn Mackay (drums) - evolved out of Edinburgh's late 70s punk milieu. Early live appearances were enthusiastic rather than accomplished, revealing the group's youthfulness, but they gradually asserted a competence and individuality. ‘Adultery', released on the city's Fast Product label, showed an undoubted grasp of melody, and in 1981 the Scars were signed to Charisma Records' short-lived Pre subsidiary.
