Alicia Keys is planning to run as fast as she can -- she's signed up to run the New York City Marathon for the first time.
Competitor.com reports that the “Girl on Fire” will pound the pavement in support of her non-profit Keep a Child Alive, which helps get life-saving HIV medication to African children and families in need. She says, “This is what inspires me when my body begins to tire. My training is nothing compared to the challenging journey these families face every day.”
This will be Alicia's second marathon -- she completed one in 2007 in Greece. But this time, it’s even more special because she's keeping it local. She says, “I thought about all the times I rode a train through the boroughs or drove through the boroughs, and it occurred to me that I’ve never run through the five boroughs. So why not?”
