(NEWSER) Two New York City mailmen—including one who allegedly trashed a bunch of packages after becoming "overwhelmed" by holiday mail—are facing up to five years in prison after being arraigned Tuesday, the New York Post reports. Daniel Darby started a new route in Queens on Dec. 2 but found himself completely stressed out by the increase in mail. According to court documents, he bought three garbage bags, filled them with mail, and threw them away.

The New York Daily News reports Darby is estimated to have tossed 1,000 packages, cards, and other pieces of mail. Court documents state he also opened some of the mail to see what was in it before throwing it away. The bags of mail were found in a residential garbage can two days later.
