UPDATE: The name of the police officer shot and killed in Northern Illinois is being released. Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chris Covelli said Charles Gliniewicz was shot this morning and that a manhunt continues for three suspects. Covelli would not confirm reports that one of the suspects was caught. Gliniewicz is a 32-year veteran of the force who was married with four children.
Covelli says the officer was responding to three suspicious people and radioed in that he was chasing them on foot. Contact with the officer was lost and a backup officer found him with a gunshot wound. The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation.
