On Friday, a rep for Dion confirmed to Gossip Cop that Daniel’s passing was “imminent,” and could come in “days” or just “hours.” Sadly, the hours-long prediction turned out to be correct. Daniel died less than 24 hours later, while surrounded by family in Montreal.
Daniel, one of Dion’s 13 older siblings, was battling brain, tongue, and throat cancer. The superstar’s husband, Angélil, also died of throat cancer. Around the same time it was revealed Daniel was near death, Dion’s camp revealed funeral plans for Angélil. Per his final wishes, a ceremony will be held next Friday at Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, the same church where he and Dion wed in 1994.
In addition, Dion is planning to hold a concert in honor of Angélil, who is credited with discovering the singer and turning her into an international music icon as he worked as her manager. The tribute, called a “Celebration of Life, is slated to take place on February 3 at the Caesars Palace Colosseum, where Dion has her residency.
Funeral plans for Dion’s brother have not been revealed, although it is expected to take place in Quebec. In addition to his famous sister and other siblings, Daniel is survived by his mother, as well his children. Our thoughts are with Dion’s family at this difficult time.
