"Rene Angelil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," his rep said in a statement. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment."
Even though he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998, TMZ reported that his death was "completely unexpected because recently he's felt much better." Angélil served as a mentor to the pop titan and is survived by three children with the singer: a 14-year-old named René-Charles and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.
iHeartRadio sends our thoughts and prayers to Céline during this time.
