A federal appeals court is upholding gay marriage bans in four states.  The ruling by the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals affects same-sex couples in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.  It's a rare defeat for proponents of same-sex marriage after a long list of victories.  Today's ruling by the Sixth Circuit virtually assures the issue will be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court.
