(NEWSER) – Jason Alexander is sort of wishing he hadn't retold an old Seinfeld story to Howard Stern Wednesday. As Alexander, aka George Costanza, explains onTwitLonger, Stern asked about the actress who played George's fiancee Susan, who was killed by toxic glue on the show. When Stern said, "Julia Louis Dreyfuss told me you all wanted to kill her," Alexander explains, he wanted to clarify that "no one wanted to kill Heidi [Swedberg]," the actress.

But in doing so, he managed to tell the story in such a way as to prompt headlines like "Seinfeld cast hated Susan so Larry David killed her off." In his apology post yesterday, Alexander notes that he feels "officially awful" and begs, "Oh dear God, leave Heidi alone. ... She was generous and gracious and I am so mad at myself for retelling this story in any way that would diminish her."
