Women should register for the draft, top U.S. military leaders said today. Marine Corps Commandant General Robert Neller told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that all eligible men and women should register for the selective service now that women are allowed to serve in combat roles.
The military is a volunteer force but currently only men are required to register when they turn 18 in case the draft is ever reactivated. Acting Secretary Patrick Murphy said it will take "several years" to fully integrate women into combat units.
