(Yahoo!) Florida State freshman quarterback De’Andre Johnson has been dismissed from the program just hours after a video showing him striking a female in a bar was released.

Johnson was accused of punching a 21-year-old woman at a bar in Tallahassee on June 24. Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher suspended him the following day and Florida state attorney Willie Meggs formally charged Johnson with misdemeanor battery on June 30 after reviewing the security footage from the bar.

The state attorney’s office released the footage of the altercation Monday:

The shocking footage shows Johnson, 19, and the woman approaching the bar at the same time. The two scuffle for position at the bar, the woman takes a swing at Johnson and Johnson hits back with a right hook so vicious it knocks cups from the bar. Johnson leaves the frame while the woman tries to recover from the blow.

Following the release of the video, Johnson's Attorney, Jose Baez released a statement:

"While it is clear from the video that De'Andre Johnson was not the initial aggressor, his family wants to take the lead in helping him learn and grow from this experience. He is currently participating in community service, and faith-based programs focused on battered women, substance abuse, and the empowerment of children. De'Andre is extremely embarrassed by this situation and would like to express his heartfelt apologies to everyone, including those who were directly affected, Coach Fisher and his team mates, the entire Florida State University community, as well as his family and friends."

Johnson was a four-star recruit from Jacksonville who enrolled at Florida State in January to get a jump on the quarterbacking competition following the departure of former Heisman winner Jameis Winston.

Johnson was listed behind Sean Maguire, who was Winston’s backup a year ago. However, with Everett Golson transferring in from Notre Dame, Johnson was considered a candidate to redshirt.
