(WOAI) A new Texas law allowing the open carry of firearms goes into effect Friday and, with a growing number of women packing heat, a cottage industry has popped up to make wearing a holster fashionable.
"Women accessorize," Carrie Lightfoot, owner of The Well Armed Woman, says. "Style is important to women, whether it is our clothes or our homes. It's natural that it carries over to our holsters."
She says, for year, the firearms industry has catered to men. Accessories are black and maybe brown, but function has always reigned supreme over form. With this new Texas law and the numbers that show women are the fastest group of gun buyers, she says the industry is being forced to sit up and take notice.
