Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, and Cyndi Lauper are all in the running to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame.  The organization unveiled its list of nominees for the Class of 2015 on Wednesday.

Other songwriters up for the honor include Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, Steve Winwood, Steve Miller, Yusuf Islam, Gloria Estefan, and Harry Wayne "K.C." Casey

Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds is also a contender, as are country music stars Vince Gill and Toby Keith.  There's also a strong slate of non-performing songwriters including Linda Perry, Rod Temperton, William "Mickey" Stevenson, and Robert Hunter, who's nominated along with his Grateful Dead songwriting partner Jerry Garcia.

The winners will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June at a gala in New York City.
