Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to covering today’s most soulful, chart-topping hits. During her recent appearance at Symphony Park (following the celebratory opening of a new Microsoft store at Charlotte’s SouthPark Mall), the powerhouse took on Sam Smith's “Stay With Me,” resulting in a haunting performance.
“[I'm going to cover] one of those singer’s songs, and it’s bluesy and it’s awesome,” she began, before launching into the searing ballad. “I love this song, and I know you’ve probably heard it a bunch, but bear with me.”
“I just love the word ‘stay’ in every song,” she laughed, teasing that her own collaborative effort with Jason Aldean is called “Don’t You Wanna Stay” (which also found its way into her setlist).
On the solo music front, Clarkson recently teased that her brand new single is expected to land in January, to feature one of music's most popular leading males. “It is so good,” she teased of the track. “I will tell you this: [it features] a male singer.”
“The song is so kind of out of the box for both of us, but kind of in our veins.” But that’s all she revealed, only added that “it’s an amazing singer, and everybody loves him.”
Clarkson launches her first annual Miracle On Broadway benefit concert Dec. 20, which will feature one star-studded lineup. Guest performers include Meghan Trainor, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Kacey Musgraves,Paramore's Hayley Williams, Charles Esten, Martina McBride and Kix Brooks.
