“SNL” opened its show this week mocking what’s being called “DeflateGate,” with New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, quarterback Tom Brady, and the team’s assistant equipment co-manager answering questions from the media about who deflated the balls. Mostly, Belichick threw Brady under the bus, while the quarterback said he doesn’t understand how balls are inflated of deflated.
Coach Belichick said, “I have nothing to do with deflating those footballs,” adding that he was going to “throw my quarterback under the bus.” And he did. Belichick told the media, “I never trust that guy.” Next up at the podium answering the media’s questions was Brady, who basically said he doesn’t understand anything, including how footballs are inflated or deflated. He said he thought footballs were inflated by “how much air was in the pig when it died.” Brady next told the press corps they should be focusing on his former teammate “Aaron Hernandez who allegedly murdered three people… That’s a huge story!”
Brady then introduced the assistant equipment co-manager Dougie Spoons, who essentially took the fall for it, after saying, “We have balls, and those balls have to be inflated by men with pumps.” Surprisingly, the cold open didn’t have as many “balls” jokes as expected.
