Zayn Malik announced the release of "Pillow Talk," his first solo single, on Sunday morning. The former One Direction singer simply tweeted a photo of what seemingly is the single’s cover, a shirtless picture of Malik, along with the words "Pillow Talk." The photo also included the song’s release date of January 29. The singer left One Direction 10 months ago to embark on a solo career.
Malik didn’t furnish any other information about the song, which presumably will not have a pop feel like One Direction’s music. He made a point in his November interview with Fader to say his former group’s music wasn’t his taste. “I wasn’t 100 percent behind the music. It wasn’t me,” stressed Malik, adding, “That’s not music that I would listen to.”
Not surprisingly, the hashtag "#PillowTalk" began to trend on Twitter shortly after Malik posted the single’s cover photo. While the singer received many well wishes from fans, none of his former One Direction bandmates have mentioned anything on socia media yet about Malik’s first solo single. That’s also not entirely shocking. In the L’Uomo Vogue “Big In 2016” issue, which came out about two weeks ago, Malik said that despite One Direction claiming they stayed friends, not only hasn’t he “spoken to any of the boys,” but also they “haven’t even replied to any of my calls or texts.”
