Juelz Santana is facing backlash after he claimed that kids don't have to learn how to read on a recent podcast.
During his appearance on the No Funny Shxt podcast, the Dipset rapper argued that students in school should learn financial literacy over learning to read a book. He also believes math should be prioritized over reading classes.
"By the time they get to ninth grade, they should be learning how to start businesses," Santana said, "But they don't really need to learn how to read."
Needless to say, The Breakfast Club's Charlamagne Tha God disagreed and gave Santana Donkey of the Day just for making the case.
“There shouldn’t be an either/or to this discussion,” Uncle Charla said. “You should be able to read, and you should learn financial literacy. If you’re going to learn financial literacy, you need to know how to read.”
Santana doubled down on the argument that math is more important than reading by claiming that kids can simply listen to an audiobook instead of using a book to obtain information. Charlamagne shot down that argument in his rant.
"If you rely on the apps and audiobooks, then you're always going to be dependent on someone else’s translation," Charlamagne explained. "But if you know how to read, then you have direct access to the information yourself. And what you can’t comprehend, what you don’t understand, then you can ask questions. That is the beauty of reading... But you can't comprehend or understand, if you don’t know how to read first. Kids need to learn how to read full stop. Adults need to learn how to read full stop. Reading matters so much, man."
