Bill Gates will testify before Congress on Wednesday (June 10) about his connections with the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. The billionaire and Microsoft founder will appear at a closed-door hearing of the House Oversight Committee, which has already heard from notable figures like former President Bill Clinton and former Attorney General Pam Bondi. Gates, who appeared in photos with Epstein released by the Justice Department last year, has acknowledged meeting Epstein multiple times starting in 2011, three years after Epstein's guilty plea for soliciting prostitution with a minor. Gates has stated that his charitable foundation was not financially involved with Epstein.
According to Forbes, Gates was warned in 2014 by an associate to maintain a "healthy distance" from Epstein. Despite this warning, Gates continued a professional relationship with Epstein until late 2014, when he reportedly cut ties. Gates has denied any wrongdoing and expressed regret for associating with Epstein, calling it "a huge mistake."
Politico reports that Gates' testimony is part of a broader investigation into Epstein's network. The committee has also interviewed figures like former Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Lesley Groff, Epstein's longtime assistant. Gates' spokesperson stated that he "welcomes" the opportunity to support the committee's work and answer all questions.
Gates' relationship with Epstein has drawn scrutiny, especially after documents revealed multiple meetings and communications between the two. Gates has admitted to having affairs that Epstein knew about but has denied any improper relationships with employees of his foundation or ventures.
The House Oversight Committee's investigation continues to unravel the extent of Epstein's connections with influential figures. A transcript of Gates' testimony is expected to be released after the hearing.
