Fernando Grillo

Fernando Grillo was called -- at least, according to liner notes by Ana Maria Avram -- "the Buddha of the contrabass" by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Avant-garde figures Luciano Berio, Luigi Non, Klaus Huber, Iancu Dumitrescu, Henri Pousseur, and Iannis Xenaxis all composed pieces for him. Several of his solo performances are available on the CD Fluvine, originally released in 1976. ~ Richie Unterberger
