b. 22 May 1935, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. A well-tutored clarinettist, alto saxophonist and flautist, Logan studied at the New England Conservatory of Music. He played jazz in Boston and New York where his broad range allowed him to encompass R&B and free jazz and he was comfortable with musicians as diverse as Earl Bostic and Archie Shepp. In 1964 he appeared at Bill Dixon's ‘October Revolution' concerts.
