A contemporary of Leon Bridges and Andra Day, Jonny P (born Powell) is a retro-soul singer and songwriter originally from the Bronx, New York City. Raised with gospel, R&B, and hip-hop, he didn't decide to pursue singing professionally until he was in college, and started writing songs in his mid-twenties, around the time he made the move to Nashville.
