Biography

Formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1952 as a semi-professional band, the Clyde Valley Stompers quickly found a following in the region. When leader and bass player Jim McHarg emigrated to Canada in 1954, Ian Menzies became the leader of the band and they soon became a full-time professional group. Their popularity extended throughout the U.K. during the '50s trad jazz boom and they had several minor hit records. Mainly, though, the band's fan base remained strongest in Scotland.
