STP Reportedly Pick X-Factor Contestant As New Singer

Back in 2015, Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington left Stone Temple Pilots after providing vocals for the band on tour. Since then, the group has been actively looking for a replacement, and they just might have found one.

According to Entertainment TonightJeff Gutt, who competed on The X Factor in 2013, seems to have beaten out many other rockers who either auditioned for the band or submitted vocals during an open audition STP held on their website earlier this year.

If Gutt is taking on the role, it isn't an easy one to fill. Guitarist Dean DeLeo told Rolling Stone, "What we're looking for is a pretty tall order. We've had the fortune of playing with some of the greatest and most talented singers out there. Robert, Eric and I know what we want, and, like I said earlier, when that person walks into a room, we'll know."

There were recent rumors that singer John Borja would be named the group's new singer, but it seems that has changed. STP, of course, had the late Scott Weiland as their frontman from their inception in 1989 until they fired him in 2013.

According to management, no decision has been made and they are still in the audition process.

Whoever the band picks as their vocalist, they plan on hitting the road next year and likely release new music as well. Stay up to date here
