Taking on the role of Queen's legendary frontman Freddie Mercury has gargantuan expectations attached to it. After Sacha Baron Cohen claimed he walked away from the role in the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody due to it sanitizing Mercury's partying ways and killing him off halfway through the movie, Mr. Robot star Rami Malek took on the part. Fans can take a collective sigh of relief after the first sneak-peak from the film was released, which shows Malek nailing Mercury's signature look.
In the uncanny photo, Malek portrays Mercury during the band's Live Aid performance in 1985. “When you’re able to open your eyes and see a different person staring back at you in the mirror,” Malek told EW about his transformation into Mercury, “it’s a very affirming moment.”
But what about that iconic voice? “We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible,” Malek revealed.“I’m in Abbey Road [Studios] right now if that should say anything to you. I’m not working on my acting.”
Bohemian Rhapsody will be in theaters on Dec. 25, 2018.
