Some of our favorite artists have just been nominated for next year's Songwriters Hall Of Fame class -- and we say that it's about time.
One of the 2018 induction nominees is Mariah Carey, who's a legend in her own right. After all, the star has the most No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in history. When you add on that Carey co-wrote 17 out of her 18 No. 1 songs, this just makes her that much more iconic.
Pioneering N.W.A. has also been nominated for a spot in the Songwriters Hall Of Fame class. If they are inducted, this will make them the first rap group to be in the class, and the second rap act in it, overall. JAY-Z became the first rapper entered into the class, earlier this year.
Other stars who have been nominated include John Mellencamp, The Isley Brothers, Jermaine Dupri, Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Chrissie Hynde, Alan Jackson, Kool & the Gang, Tom Waits and Tom T. Hall. "Songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit songs for at least 20 years," AP reports.
