Restaurant Offers Huge Discount If You Let Them Lock Up Your Phone

If you've gone to a restaurant recently, chances are you've seen diners with their phones in their hands ignoring their companions, but one British pub is hoping to change that.

It's called The Fat Boar and they're offering customers a huge discount to not use their phones while they eat... but there's a catch.

Diners have to surrender their devices while in the eatery, having their phones locked up in a box on the table until they head out.

If they are able to make it through the meal without needing to unlock the box, they'll get 25% off their bill.

A manager at The Fat Boar explained to The Mirror why he decided to do what they're calling Mobile Free Mondays:

"We all have busy lives and [phones] can be a fantastic way to keep in touch with everything we need to run our hectic schedules. But I couldn't help but think it would be nice to encourage some of our loyal customers to make the most of an evening out with us and escape from all the constant ‘bing bing’ of information which these little devices throw at us. Mobiles can often be a real distraction and stop us from just sitting among family and friends and simply having a good conversation and that’s why I came up with the idea."

Hopefully the concept will come to the US soon.
