Driver Killed in Charter Bus Crash Carrying Students On School Trip

Officials say a charter bus carrying at least 45 Texas high school students home from a trip to Disney World plunged into a ravine near the Alabama-Florida state line Tuesday morning, killing the driver of the bus.
Baldwin County Sheriff Huey Hoss Mack told reporters at a news conference that everyone on board the bus were taken to 10 hospitals in Alabama and Florida.
The charter bus was carrying Channelview High School band members back to Houston, Texas after a trip to Disney World. According to officials, the bus entered the median on Interstate 10 and then fell into a 50-foot ravine around 5:30 a.m.
The interstate was closed in both directions after the accident. Officials have not said yet why the bus lost control.
First-responders had to use ropes and rappel down into the ravine in order to begin rescue operations. An image broadcast by TV stations on scene showed the bus on its side,
WKRG-TV is reporting that 12 to 20 people have been injured in the crash. The bus company, First Class Tours issued a statement saying they pledges its assistance in cooperating with authorities.
