Come on, vogue!
Sam Smith and Calvin Harris paid homage to the queer ballroom scene in their new music video for their single, "Promises." The "Too Good At Goodbyes" singer dropped the '80s inspired video on Tuesday (September 4). "So excited to show you the official video for Promises," Sam captioned a sneak peek of the music video on Instagram. "Never had so much fun shooting a video."
"Felt like a normal horse meat disco Sunday night in Vauxhall haha," he added, referring to a popular London-based LGBTQ dance party.
"Promises" music video, which was directed by Emil Nava, shows Sam performing at various events, including the queer ball scene. While Sam sings his heart out, dozens of glittery dancers vogue and move their bodies to the music. As for Calvin's role in the video, the Scottish music producer seems to be taking in the sites as he's shown walking around the ball at times, partying with guests, and posing with Sam. Winnie Harlow also makes a few cameos in the video. In one scene she plays a model in the voguing contest. (Yes, there's a voguing contest!) In another, she's in an all-white ensemble. Her last look was a sexy red gown.

"Promises" was written by both Calvin and Sam. Jessie Reyez is also listed a co-writer. The Canadian singer-songwriter additionally lent her vocals to the track.
Calvin announced the single on Twitter last month, captioning the song's Japanese-inspired artwork, "very excited about this one !!!" Sam added, "Surprise! I'm so excited for you all to hear this song."
