Pope Francis plans to meet with a delegation of U.S. bishops to discuss the clergy abuse scandals. Cardinal Donald Wuerl of the Washington, DC is under fire for allegedly covering up some of the abuse scandals when he was a bishop in Pittsburgh. A Pennsylvania grand jury released a report last month detailing decades of abuse. Wuerl allegedly knew of the accusations and gave the accused new assignments. Wuerl released a letter this week saying it might be time for a fresh start. He has submitted a letter of resignation to Pope Francis and is scheduled to meet with him to discuss the matter. The U.S. delegation meeting with Pope Francis is being led by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston and Houston. He leads the U.S. Conference of Bishops.
