Anyone who doesn't think Green Day has punk rock cred probably doesn't know much about the band's beginnings. The trio formed in 1986, when they were just teenagers. Before going all in with Green Day Billie Joe Armstrong also fronted a band called Desecrated Youth, and footage has surfaced of the band playing a backyard show in 1987, when Armstrong was only 16 years old. Though the clip is short, it packs enough punch to show that the Bay Area native was a true punk rock kid.
"Recorded in Raj Punjabi's backyard in Rodeo, California in 1987," the YouTube description reads. "Raj on drums, Sean Hughes on bass, Mike Pritchard on guitar and Billie Joe Armstrong on the mic. Footage shown in the documentary Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk."
Watch the Desecrated Youth footage below.
This isn't the only piece of Green Day nostalgia that's surfaced recently. In February, a pristine recording of the Bay Area rockers' unreleased track "Stay" was uploaded online, and it's from a gig they played in 1989. The band also recently celebrated Dookie's 25th birthday, with each band member reflecting on their seminal third album and what it means to them.
