The Washington Post is asking a federal court to dismiss a $250,000,000 libel suit brought on by a Kentucky high schooler. Covington Catholic High School student Nicholas Sandmann claims the paper's coverage of him and his fellow students' confrontation with an American Indian activist at the Lincoln Memorial in January was defamatory and false. In its motion to dismiss the suit, the Post said its stories were accurate and the teen has no cause of action for libel against the paper. The newspaper's coverage accused Sandmann of provoking the American Indian activist reportedly with Make America Great Again-style epithets and racist chanting. Video recordings on cell phones at the scene by the Black Hebrew Israelites and the Native Americans appear to show otherwise.
