You've probably sung along to one of Morgan Wallen's No. 1 songs on the radio more than a few times, but did you know he got his start on the singing competition show The Voice

The “Whiskey Glasses” singer's mom is to thank after she signed him up for the show in 2014 and he even made it past the judges. “I didn’t even know what The Voice was,” he explained to People. “That whole experience kind of kick-started me a little bit.”

Sadly though, Wallen didn't make it far and was eliminated during the Playoffs portion of the show after first being on Usher's team until Adam Levine stole him. But as we all know, that was only the beginning of the now 26-year-old's incredible music career. Now, you can catch him on tour next year with Jason Aldean and check out his new song with Diplo.

Looking back on his short time on the show, Wallen revealed that he is pretty grateful things worked out how they did. “I’m thankful for that time. I’m thankful for how it all turned out,” he said. “I’m thankful that I didn’t win because it gave me a chance to take a couple years after that show and really figure out who I was as an artist and get the right team around me. When I got there, I had no clue what I was doing.”

Wallen isn't the first country singer to be booted a singing competition show, Maren Morris had a pretty rough experience on a handful of talent competition shows too.
