Royal visit to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

After almost four months of social distancing, a few members of the British Royal Family are returning to public life. Prince Charles paid a visit to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to meet with the workers this week. Though the heir to the throne was photographed outside of the hospital without a mask, he stayed a safe distance away from everybody present.

During his visit, the Prince of Wales shared details from his experience with the novel coronavirus. Back in March, Prince Charles revealed he had tested positive for COVID-19. Though Prince Charles is in much better health these days, he admitted he still felt some lingering effects of the virus. Jeff Mills, a healthcare assistant who met with the prince, told BBC News: "He did speak of his personal experience, so first-hand experience for him. He also spoke about his loss of smell and taste and, sort of, still felt he's still got it now."

This isn't the first time Prince Charles has opened up about his personal experience with COVID-19. While the 71-year-old royal is considered "high risk" for the virus due to his age, he previously told Sky News the illness ended up being quite mild for him. "I was lucky in my case, but I've had it, and I can so understand what other people have gone through," he said.

"I feel particularly for those who have lost their loved ones and have been unable to be with them at the time. That, to me, is the most ghastly thing," the prince added. "But in order to prevent this happening to so many more people, I'm so determined to find a way out of this."

Like the rest of the country, Prince Charles was separated from his children and grandchildren during the pandemic. During their visit to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, however, Prince Charles' wife Camilla revealed they had their first socially distanced reunion with their grandchildren recently. Camilla said it was a "great treat" to see Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis again despite not being able to hug them.
