Denver Broncos v New England Patriots

Fans will be prohibited from attending New England Patriots and/or New England Revolution games for the remainder of the 2020 season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Gillette Stadium officials released a statement on Monday announcing the facility would be closed to fans for the remainder of the 2020 NFL and MLS seasons, respectively.

"We have recently been informed that the Governor’s Executive Order prohibiting large capacity venues from opening to the public will remain in force for the remainder of the 2020 football and soccer seasons," stadium officials wrote.

"We understand that the advisory board, Governor [Charlie] Baker and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito made this decision with the health and safety of the community in mind. Still, we know that this decision will be disappointing to the friends and family members of our respective teams and countless Patriots and Revolution Season Ticket Members who were eager to attend games this season.

The decision comes days after Gov. Baker issued new "targeted interventions," which included a business curfew and limited number of individuals allowed at gatherings amid another spike in COVID-19 cases.

Governor Baker prohibited fans from attending games at Gillette Stadium and Fenway Park over the summer, but had left open the possibility of allowing fan attendance if the number of cases decreased in the fall. Bars, concert halls and large venues, including both stadiums and TD Garden, will be part of Phase 4 of Massachusetts' reopening plan, WCVB reports.

Gillette Stadium officials said they will turn their focus to 2021 and will work closely with the advisory board to safely reopen to the public.
