A new HBO documentary on the iconic ‘70s pop trio the Bee Gees is arriving in December.
How Can You Mend a Broken Heart will premiere on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. Eastern on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
According to the first teaser clip for the film, it will explore the “triumphs and hurdles” brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb faced in their journey to rivaling The Beatles as one of the biggest-selling musical groups of all-time.
“The iconic trio, who found early fame in the ‘60s, went on to write over 1,000 songs, including 20 No. 1 hits throughout their stories career,” said the producers. “This film follows the [Bee Gees’] meteoric rise, as they rode the highs of fame and fortune, negotiated the vagaries of the ever-shifting music business and navigated the complexities of working so intimately alongside family.”
Director Frank Marshall added that, even as a longtime fan, he was surprised at what he found when he dove into the Bee Gees' story over a two-year period — from their “uncanny creative instincts” to their “treasure trove of music, their humor, and loyalty.”

The HBO documentary is separate from a rumored Bee Gees biopic project to which Steven Spielberg and Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King have been attached.
