If this trailer doesn't scare you, no evil thing will.

On Wednesday (February 17) Walt Disney Studios released the first trailer for its live-action 101 Dalmations prequel Cruella. The upcoming film will reveal the "brilliant, bad and a little bit mad origins of the dalmation-obsessed villainess from the animated classic.

Emma Stone stars as Cruella de Vil, a grifter and aspiring fashion designer who will do just about anything to get her designs noticed. “From the very beginning, I realized I saw the world very differently than everyone else,” Stone says in the trailer. “That didn’t sit well with some people, but I wasn’t for everyone. I guess they were always scared that I would be a psycho. But a new day brings new opportunities. And I was ready to make a statement. How does the saying go? I am woman, hear me roar.”

Here's the official synopsis from Walt Disney Studios:

Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, Cruella follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable, and revenge-bent Cruella.

Cruella is set to premiere in theaters on May 28. During a recent earnings call, however, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said, depending on the pandemic, the film may premiere on Disney Plus instead. We'll just have to wait and see.
