Earlier this week, Marcus Mumford officially announced his debut solo album (self-titled), and it's safe to say his Mumford & Sons bandmates support him. On Thursday (July 14), Marcus shared the album's lead single "Cannibal," and pianist Ben Lovett shared a touching message on Mumford & Sons' Instagram page.
"Behind every artist is a human being. Behind every band is a group of human beings. Sometimes we forget that. In many ways it seems obvious but sometimes it’s good to send a reminder," the note begins. "@marcusmumford, a guy I’ve known and loved since we were kids growing up together, has made a beautiful album - a real, honest, and pure album that explores his unique story in a way he has never done before. Ted and I feel immensely proud of him, a deep love for those who contributed and loving gratitude for those that have supported his artistry."
He also assured that Marcus going solo doesn't mean the band is breaking up, writing: "We are excited about the next chapter of Mumford & Sons, we’re working on what that looks like, but for now we hope you can enjoy this person, our friend, being a human being."
(self-titled) is slated for a September 16 release. Listen to "Cannibal" above and see Lovett's post below.
