Cheap Trick will perform a few upcoming shows without the services of guitarist and co-founder Rick Nielsen.

"A few days ago Rick had a minor procedure that requires him to stay off the road for this week and not travel," the band wrote in a statement shared via social media. "Robin Taylor Zander will be stepping up this weekend. We look forward to Rick rejoining the guys on the West Coast later next week."

Robin Taylor Zander is the son of Cheap Trick frontman Robin Zander. While Nielsen's son Daxx has covered the band on drums since 2010, the younger Zander has served as a kind of utility man for the band since 2014, supplying guitar and backing vocals and filling in on bass for Tom Petersson last year while Petersson recovered from heart surgery.

This past summer, Robin Taylor told Rolling Stone that he could probably fill every role in the band, if necessary, except perhaps for his father's vocals.

Zander senior has never missed a show.
