Born on July 15, 1993, in Washington, D.C., Katharine "Kat" Holmes is a three-time Olympian and one of the most accomplished epee fencers in the United States. Standing at 5'11", Holmes has represented the U.S. in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympic Games.

Holmes' interest in fencing began at the age of nine, inspired by her love for books about the middle ages and knights in shining armor. Despite not being particularly skilled at the sport initially, her passion for it drove her to continue practicing and improving. She eventually became a nationally ranked fencer and set her sights on the Olympics.

Holmes attended the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., and later pursued a bachelor's degree in neuroscience, graduating magna cum laude from Princeton University in 2017. During her time at Princeton, she was a four-time All-American honoree and made her first national team at the age of 15.

In addition to her fencing career, Holmes is also pursuing a career in medicine. She started medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City just three days after returning from the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Despite the demanding schedule, Holmes has managed to balance her studies with her training and competition commitments.

In an interview with Business Insider, Holmes shared that she often studies in between matches during competitions and even takes exams on the road. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to both her athletic and academic pursuits.
